I first really got into The Strokes when I was about 16. I had a family vacation to Hawaii and I remember putting on “Is This It” as our plane took off. I had listened to them before and dismissed them. It takes me a while to get into a band and there was something about these guys that was intriguing but hadn't really clicked with me yet. The guitars were being played so straight, the vocals were kind of weird? Like in a way where I couldn't tell if the dude was a terrible singer or an incredible one. I had them on repeat the whole flight, with each listen becoming more invested and enthralled with their style. I now know it's a cliche with The Strokes at this point but listening to them made me feel, well, fucking cool. By the time we landed they were my favourite band. To this day it's the only music I listen to whenever I'm taking off on an airplane
